The SIIR Implant Lecture 2024 was a success and provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the latest findings in implant research. The interdisciplinary focus of the event fostered exchange between engineering, biology, materials science, and medicine, highlighting how different scientific fields can collaborate to advance implant technology.

Here is a summary of the speakers and their topics:

  1. “Preclinical testing of implant materials – Why do we still need animal models?”
PD Dr. med. vet. Janin Reifenrath, Department of Orthopedics, Hannover Medical School
  2. “Enhancing the service life of load-bearing implants by surface modification”
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Max Marian, Institute of Machine Design and Tribology, Leibniz University Hannover
  3. “Transforming Medical Implants: The Science of Polymeric Enhancements”
Prof. Prof. h.c. Dr.-Ing. Birgit Glasmacher, Institute of Multiphase Processes, Leibniz University Hannover
  4. “Implantology 4.0 – Where is the journey going? New biomaterials in hard/soft tissue management – new implant materials/surfaces – PRP/PRGF/PRF/hyaluronic acid?”
Prof. Dr. Dr. Ralf Smeets, Department and Polyclinic of Oral, Maxillofacial and Facial Surgery, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf
  5. “Blind trust or informed judgment? How people decide whether to trust science.”
Dr. Friederike Hendriks, Department of Communication Science & Department of Educational Psychology, TU Braunschweig
  6. “Introducing functions with supramolecular gelators: from molecules towards 3D materials and applications”
Dr. Jasmina Gačanin, Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz

We look forward to future events that will continue to drive innovations in implant research.
