Prof. Dr. Meike Stiesch
Spokesperson CRC/TRR 298 SIIRI
SIIRI spokesperson Prof. Stiesch has been the Director of the Department of Prosthodontics and Biomedical Materials Science at Hannover Medical School since 2005 and has served as Chair of the Lower Saxony Center for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research, and Development (MHH) since 2019.
Since 2022, she has also been co-spokesperson the DFG Research Group 5250, focused on the fabrication of permanent and bioresorbable implants with tailored functionality. Her research within SIIRI aims to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms of peri-implant infections using innovative in vivo and in vitro models, as well as to develop self-regulating sensor-actuator systems for detecting and combating these infections.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Jürgen Maier
Co-Spokesperson CRC/TRR 298 SIIRI
SIIRI co-spokesperson Prof. Hans Jürgen Maier is the Director of the Institute of Materials Science at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH). His SIIRI research focuses on mechanisms to prevent early corrosive degradation of cochlear implants and on the development of novel, high-strength niobium-containing dental implants.
Since 2020, he has also served as spokesperson for the DFG Collaborative Research Center 1368, “Oxygen-Free Production,” which explores manufacturing processes in oxygen-free environments to produce particularly high-quality, oxide-free material composites and to develop the required processes in oxygen-free atmospheres.
