HealthTalk – Implantologie der Zukunft. Made in the Metropolitan Region – Focus on SIIRI
In an increasingly aging society, medical implants are becoming more and more important as they contribute significantly to maintaining quality of life, mobility, and independence in old age. But how can they become even safer, smarter, and more compatible? This question was at the center of the recent HealthTalk of the Hannover Metropolitan Region, which also focused on the Collaborative Research Center SIIRI – Safety-Integrated and Infection-Reactive Implants.
SIIRI spokesperson Prof. Dr. Meike Stiesch presented the collaborative project, which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) with around 12 million euros. The goal of SIIRI is to develop implants that can detect complications early and respond actively – through integrated sensors, smart materials, and actuators.
Prof. Dr. Eva Baumann (HMTMH) emphasized the importance of health communication within the project: Only through clear, target-group-oriented communication strategies can acceptance and trust in new implant technologies be strengthened.
The HealthTalk impressively demonstrated how closely research, communication, and translation are networked within the SIIRI consortium – with the common goal of bringing innovative implants from basic research into clinical application.
