On September 11, 2023, the second Digital Implant Innovation Forum took place at NIFE in Hannover. The event focused on the additive manufacturing of implants and their clinical applications. PD Dr. Philippe Korn (MKG) spoke about Next-Generation Implants, while other topics such as high-performance materials, laser 3D printing, functional integration, and AI-assisted designs were also discussed. A special focus was placed on precision medicine and the visions of start-ups for the future of medical technology.

The forum was moderated by SIIRI spokesperson Prof. Meike Stiesch and project leaders Prof. Henning Windhagen, Prof. Nils Claudius Gellrich, and Prof. Thomas Lenarz, who led the event with their expertise and guidance.

In the presence of State Secretary Frank Doods from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics, Transport, Construction and Digitalization, Prof. Michael Manns, President of MHH, and Prof. Holger Blume, Vice President of LUH, the Translational Center for Precision Medicine was presented. This groundbreaking project, realized in collaboration with the Medical School Hannover, NIFE, and medical technology companies, aims to serve as a national translational hub. The goal is to connect hospitals with the development of individualized 3D-printed implants to ensure fast, patient-oriented care. Personalized implants are expected to extend implant longevity and shorten rehabilitation times – a progress enabled by advancements in biomaterials and additive manufacturing.
