On August 31 and September 1, 2022, the 1st International SIIRI Symposium took place at the Lower Saxony Center for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research, and Development (NIFE), organized in cooperation with the International Interdisciplinary Alliance Against Implant-Associated Infection (I4A). Under the title “Hannover Symposium on Safety-Integrated and Infection-Reactive Implants”, the event provided an intensive exchange of innovative solutions in the field of implant research. Together with international experts from Australia, the USA, and Europe, we discussed new strategies to make implants even safer for the future. The symposium offered a valuable platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of research findings to further improve implant safety and the treatment of implant-associated infections.

The guest speakers at the 1st International SIIRI Symposium included:

  • Jennifer H. Elisseeff, PhD
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, USA
  • Dr.-Ing. Steffen Oeltze-Jafra
Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics, Technical University of Braunschweig (TUBS) and Hannover Medical School (MHH), Germany
  • Gary L. Kreps, PhD
Center for Health and Risk Communication, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA
  • Prof. Michele Marino, PhD
Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Science, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy
  • Dr. med. dent. Moritz Kebschull, MBA
Restorative Dentistry, School of Dentistry, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom
  • Elena Ivanova, PhD
RMIT School of Science, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia

These renowned scientists contributed significantly to the success of the symposium with their presentations and provided valuable insights into the further development of safety-integrated and infection-reactive implants.

We look forward to the second international SIIRI Symposium in 2024, which we will announce here on our website.
